Expansion potential: From biogas to RNG
Biogas produced in a biomass digester through anaerobic digestion can be further refined into RNG, also known as renewable natural gas (RNG). During the upgrading process, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and other impurities are removed from the raw biogas to increase the methane concentration.
The resulting RNG has natural gas quality and can be injected into the gas grid or used as a renewable transport fuel. Biogas upgrading therefore enables operators of anaerobic digestion plants to maximize the value of the produced biogas and contribute to sustainable energy supply.
