Successful certification of food safety according to DIN EN ISO 22000
Good, better, excellent: The production of liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) at EnviTec Bioenergie Güstrow GmbH meets the highest standards! “With our successful certification according to DIN EN ISO 22000, we have set another milestone in the commissioning of our BioEnergie Park in Güstrow,” says Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas AG. At its owner-operated plant in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany’s largest biogas producer is producing not only climate-neutral bio-LNG for heavy goods vehicles, but also green LCO2 for the food sector.
“This certificate is a testament to the consistently high standards we set for all our products and, in the final analysis, also proves that biogas is capable of much more than just heat and power generation,” adds von Lehmden. Carbon dioxide is used not only for beverage carbonation, but also in many other areas of food processing requiring the highest levels of purity and safety. “This certification gives us official proof that our production processes meet these strict requirements,” continues the CEO. “The implementation and monitoring of strict hygiene measures, the precise documentation of all processes, and the regular training of our colleagues are measures that have helped us to satisfy the certification requirements, allowing us to successfully navigate the certification process together.”
LCO2 is an indispensable raw material used in the beverage industry for cooling, freezing, carbonation, and more. Liquid carbon dioxide is also used in many other industrial sectors, such as the chemical industry. Here it is used in the production of polycarbonates and other plastics, among other things. Particularly in the context of the energy transition, LCO2 is also proving its versatility in the production of synthetic fuels, including kerosene. “In this regard, green LCO2 is a sustainable resource that has become instrumental in the development of environmentally friendly technologies, highlighting its importance in countless modern industrial processes,” explains von Lehmden.
The 18,000 tons of food-grade LCO2 produced each year in Güstrow are purchased by EnviTec’s customer Carbo Kohlensäurewerke GmbH & Co KG.
